In the recent conflict with Spain it was clearly shown that both sections of the country, North as well as South, had lost none of their naval prowess, but the conflict was too short to give rise to any of that music which generally follows naval victories.
As a pendant to the above pictures of martial heroism we may cite an example of an American deed of generosity and courage upon the sea, in time of peace.
